Kotoko Can Use Their New Jersey in the GPL But In CAF CL, They Have to Negotiate Due To This Image


Kumasi Asante Kotoko have revealed their new home and away kits or jerseys for the upcoming 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League season. This happened last week, but some people were doubting that the Kumasi based club will be allowed to use this new jerseys due to the image of the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II in the kit.

But news from a ranking member of the Ghana Football Association Executive Council reveals that, Kumasi Asante Kotoko can use the jersey in the Ghana Premier League because there is no law in Ghana that prohibits it but will have issues with the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF). He concluded that, the can only use it in CAF Champions League if they embark on negotiations with CAF.

This was revealed by Nana Oduro Sarfo a member of the GFA Executive Council. He revealed this through Abusua FM.

On Abusua FM, Nana Oduro said, “There’s no law in Ghana that prohibits Kotoko from using Asanteman’s image on their jersey to play the Ghana Premier League. However CAF have exclusive marketing and commercial rights on all their competitions. Therefore, Kotoko must negotiate with them before they can use same jersey to play in the Champions League.”

Kumasi Asante have qualified to take part of the CAF Champions League, but as it stands it will be very difficult for them to use their new jerseys in the tournament.
